FAMILY FAVORITES FRIDAY: Open Book Cake
Through the years I have made decorated cakes for my children for their birthdays. Not every year, but sometimes.
When my oldest daughter was engaged, she requested a book cake for her engagement party. She has always loved books, so this seemed like a fun cake to make.

Family Favorites Friday: Parmesan Ranch Chicken
This recipe for Parmesan Ranch Chicken is super easy. Since we like grilled chicken that has been marinated in ranch dressing, I put this combination together one day and it became an instant favorite.

FAMILY FAVORITES FRIDAY: Colorado Springs
When summer starts heating up in Texas, I am ready to head to the mountains.
Over the years we have visited Colorado Springs several times.
There are many things to do as a family that are free, so it is easy on the vacation budget.

Family Favorites Friday: Camping
Today I have the privilege of guest posting at 9Peas.
Kathy wanted to hear more about some of our family camping trips, so I wrote about a trip we took almost twenty years ago. We camped from Arkansas to Pennsylvania and back again with 5 children aged 5 months to 6 years.
Head over to 9Peas to read about Family Friendly Camping From Arkansas to Pennsylvania. You are sure to find some places you would like to visit.

Family Favorites Friday: The Ranger's Apprentice Book Review
The Ranger's Apprentice is a thirteen-book
series written by John Flanagan.
The first book was released in 2004
and the thirteenth and final book was released last year, 2013.
The
series centers around Will Treaty, an orphan boy who lives in a
government-sponsored house for children who had tragically lost their
parents. He lives in the fief of Redmont in the Kingdom of Araluen,
which, although a fantasy world, is loosely patterned after
medieval England.

Family Favorites Friday: Family Games
Our game shelf testifies that we like to play games.
We tend to play more games when we are on vacation together or when everyone returns from the four corners of the earth for holidays, but we do like to play games.
Some of our favorite games are:

Family Favorites Friday: OVEN CARAMEL CORN

Makes great gifts! |
This is our absolute favorite caramel corn. It is from my very old Farm Journal's Country Cookbook.
It is very easy. A candy thermometer and a popcorn popper come in handy, though.

Family Favorites Friday: Parmesan Potatoes
I found this recipe in a cookbook from the Arkansas Association of Extension Home Economists that I received as a wedding present almost 30 years ago. My husband loves these potatoes, as do all my children. I avoid white potatoes due to blood sugar issues, but have found that this recipe works just as well with sweet potatoes. Enjoy...and share!
1/2
cup
butter (could use 1/4 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup butter)
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated ( grated )
1 teaspoon Greek seasoning
6-8 potatoes ( peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes )
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Add butter to 9 x 13 baking dish; put dish in oven to melt butter. Place dry ingredients into gallon Ziploc bag; add cubed potatoes, shake to coat potatoes. Put potatoes into baking dish with melted butter. Stir to coat potatoes with butter. Bake for 1 hour, stirring after 30 minutes.

BIG BATCH HOMEMADE GRANOLA
My mom made this granola for my sisters and brother when we were growing up. I don't remember her ever putting apples in it. We liked raisins in our granola. We called it dry cereal and ate it with milk poured over it.
I like to make a batch of this for when we camp or vacation. I have added some variations over the years that we like even better.
